Police in Lymington warn of possible bogus health visitor

Police in Lymington are appealing for information from local residents about a possible bogus health visitor.

Officers have received a report from a resident in Norley Wood, claiming that a woman called at her home in December stating that she was from the local doctor's surgery and had come to see her child or children.

When challenged about which surgery she was from, the caller stated that she was there to do the weights and measures of the woman's child or children.

The caller did not appear to know anything about the family and tried to push the door open but was refused entry.

The caller is described as:

Officers investigating the incident are keen to hear from anyone who may have received a similar call from the woman or may have seen her in the area.

Lymington Safer Neighbourhoods Sergeant Nick Adams said: “This is a very unusual incident and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or been approached by this woman recently.

It could be that she is genuine, although her behaviour is a cause for concern and advice may need to be given. Until we have traced or identified who she is, we would urge all Lymington residents to exercise caution when receiving any unsolicited callers at their homes and always ask for and thoroughly check ID before engaging with them.

This applies particularly to parents of young children who should be especially cautions, and to contact us immediately if they have concerns.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Nick Adams at Lymington police station on 101, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers charity line 0800 555 111.
