Police issue CCTV images following a theft and assault incident at a Lymington supermarket

CCTV ImagePolice in the New Forest have issued CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a theft and assault incident at Somerfield supermarket, Ampress Industrial Estate, Lymington at 2.15am on Wednesday, August 19.is so

A man entered the store and filled a basket with various items including meat, confectionary and toiletries. He went on to exit the store making no attempt to pay.

The man was pursued by a member of staff onto the petrol forecourt. The member of staff was assaulted by the offender before he ran away.

The member of staff, a man in his 50s, sustained a swollen jaw as a result of the incident. He did not require hospital treatment.

Almost £60 worth of items were stolen from the store.

PC Heather Weaver of Lymington police station said: “It is believed the assault took place in full view of customers filling up their vehicles on the petrol forecourt before the offender made off on foot.

“Members of staff at Somerfield should not have to accept this behaviour as part of their job and we would appeal to anyone who may be able to assist us in identifying the person responsible to contact us.”
