Lymington market goes green
It’s not just the apples and cabbages that are green at Lymington market.
Thanks to a grant from the recycling organisation, Business Resources Efficiency and Waste, all the cardboard collected from the popular Saturday street market now gets recycled.
Lymington is one of the few street markets in the country to get the recycling treatment in a groundbreaking partnership initiative between New Forest District Council and Lymington and Pennington Town Council.
From now on, none of the waste from Lymington market will go to landfill.
The cardboard waste will be collected separately to be recycled into new cardboard packaging.
The non recyclable waste will be incinerated to generate electricity.
Portfolio holder for environment Councillor Edward Heron said: “This is a great start. The new recycling collections at Lymington market will see tonnes of cardboard being diverted into recycling with tremendous benefits for the environment.
